High-profile developer Nigel Satterley was inducted into the Property Council’s hall of fame earlier in the year, in recognition of a career that has transformed a small suburban agency into the state’s largest independently owned property operation.
Newer industry names were acknowledged during the year, with Pindan director of group dwellings Chris Lillis winning the Master Builders Association WA Ric New medal for young high achievers.
Western Australian builders also had success at the national MBA awards, with BGC Construction winning the national public buildings award in the $20 million to $50 million category for its redevelopment of the St John of God Hospital, Murdoch.
Redevelopment was in vogue on the awards scene, with the East Perth Redevelopment Authority taking out the judges’ award at the Urban Development Institute of Australia (WA) awards for its Union Bakery Redevelopment.
The former Lindsay Street bakery has been transformed into the EPRA’s new office building, winning several heritage awards.
Individual accolades were also conferred at a national level, with Perth-born architect Kerry Hill receiving the prestigious Royal Australian Institute of Architects gold medal for architecture.
Based in Singapore, Mr Hill has achieved international renown during his 37-year career, spent predominantly in South East Asia.
He has also been involved in local projects, such as the design for the WA performing arts centre, and Ooi House in Margaret River.
Local success stories were recognised by the Real Estate Institute of Western Australia’s reiwa.com awards, with John Nigrone of Realty One taking the title of top unassisted listing representative, and Paul Tonich of Force First National Real Estate winning the award for assisted listing representative.
In the offices category, Ray White Geraldton was the year’s top listing company.
