Gippsland extends service

WA-BASED Gippsland Limited is expanding its Internet-based enterprise WiredCity to provide a high speed, broadband Internet access service.

WiredCity will initially be accessible via modem and broadband fibre optic connections but will move rapidly to provide an asymmetric digital subscriber line broadband service.

This will allow households and businesses to access up to television quality vision.

It is expected the ADSL services will be made available to WiredCity subscribers by the last quarter of 2000.

The ADSL technology offers broadband access to subscribers through the current phone system accessible by 90 per cent of Australians.

Telstra will initially offer download speeds using ADSL that will be thirty times faster than 56K modems.
