West Australian schools have received $8 million out of a total of $97.7 million in Commonwealth funding announced by federal School Education Minister Peter Garrett today.
Only Tasmanian and South Australian received less funding, with schools in those states receiving $5 million and $6 million, respectively.
New South Wales schools were allocated $23 million, Victoria $23 million and Queensland $18 million.
The funds, released under the fifth round of the National Partnerships scheme, will allow schools to raise teacher quality and help students overcome disadvantages, Mr Garrett said.
"The Gillard government is committed to making every school a great school, and to ensuring that all students, regardless of their background or location, have access to a quality education.
"The funding we are providing today will help achieve these goals in WA.":
National Partnerships funding has previously been allocated to establish a transition support program for high school students in the Kimberley and to set up the Western Austrlaian Institute for Public School Leadership and Professional Learning.
Over the life of the program, 350 schools in WA will receive benefits from $205 million in federal funds.
Nationally, more than 2,500 schools will receive up to $2.59 billion over the life of the partnerships.
"We want to build an education system that gives our young people the skills they need to contribute to our national economy, while providing the life skills they need to be active citizens and contributors to their local communities," Mr Garrett said.
