VOUCHERS worth $200 to help small businesses deal with the GST have started being sent out.
To be eligible for a voucher, a small business must be registered for the GST.
According to the New Tax System Advisory Board, more than 1,000 suppliers of goods and services, many offering significant discounts, have registered to supply small businesses with goods and services needed to become GST ready.
Those products and discounts can be obtained by redeeming the $200 Direct Assistance vouchers.
New Tax System Advisory Board chairman Chris Jordan said with the Y2K bug and festive season over, businesses were now focusing on how the GST might affect them.
He said costs to operate in a GST environment could be significantly lower than stated in some reports.
“Not every business will have to buy a new computer, new software, seek training or advice,” Mr Jordan said.
“However, businesses should see the availability of these certificates as an opportunity to make their business better,” he said.
