GRE, Leighton explore geothermal options

West Perth-based Green Rock Energy has teamed up with Leighton Contractors to jointly investigate geothermal energy supply options for the planned expansion of the QEII Medical Centre.

The announcement is below:

Green Rock Energy Limited and Leighton Contractors have entered an agreement to jointly investigate geothermal
energy supply options for the QEII Medical Centre in Perth. The planned expansion of QEII will lead to a substantial
increase in its energy demand and peak load for cooling.

Green Rock's Managing Director Richard Beresford said "We are delighted to be working jointly with Leighton
Contractors on this opportunity. Leighton's track record in project delivery is unparalleled, and we believe that a
significant part of the QEII Medical Centre's cooling and heating requirements could be met by geothermal sourced
from deep sedimentary aquifers beneath the site. Our proposal to test the concept at our first project planned for The
University of Western Australia's Crawley Campus should over the next eighteen months provide the confidence
needed for much wider use of geothermal energy in the Perth metropolitan area."

Leighton Contractors confirmed they saw future potential for geothermal as a renewable energy source in Perth and
looked forward to Green Rock's project at UWA demonstrating the potential viability of the concept.
