Perth architecture firm Fratelle has merged with national urban design practice Rothelowman after a two-year partnership.
The merger started today with Fratelle’s team of architects and interior designers now operating under the Rothelowman name and part of the 220-member national collective.
The combined portfolio includes ongoing projects in Western Australia valued at up to $500 million, according to a statement by Fratelle and Rothelowman.
The statement said the merger would increase the capacity to deliver large-scale projects in WA through the combination of Fratelle's knowledge of the local landscape and Rothelowman's scale of operations and experience.
Fratelle director Kylee Schoonens, who founded the architecture firm with husband Adrian Fratelle in early 2010, will join the Rothelowman team as principal.
Ms Schoonens said the new structure would significantly boost her team’s ability to influence and shape WA while keeping the city’s character and liveability.
“The Fratelle team is thrilled to become part of Rothelowman. It will significantly enhance our growth in WA and provide us with greater exposure to projects across the country,” she said.
“As part of an established team that has more than 30 years’ experience delivering large-scale complex projects across Australia, we have a very bright future ahead of us.
“I am excited to join the prestigious and experienced team of principals at Rothelowman and look forward to making an impact on the future of the practice.”
Fratelle’s projects include the Guildford Hotel revamp, the Claremont Hotel restoration and the Koolangka pedestrian bridge in Nedlands, also known as the Kids’ Bridge.
Rothelowman managing principal Nigel Hobart said the Fratelle merger was the natural evolution for the national collective due to the two firms aligning in goals and values.
“Having worked closely together since 2020, Rothelowman has seen firsthand the exceptional work delivered by Fratelle,” he said.
“As a respected voice and advocate for the property and construction industry, Kylee’s ability to positively influence her peers goes beyond her immediate team.
“As she steps into her role as Principal, Kylee brings a fresh perspective and refined skillset to the Rothelowman leadership team that we haven’t had before.
“Kylee and the Fratelle team joining Rothelowman is the last piece of the puzzle for Rothelowman to achieve true nation-wide geographic, sector and service diversity.”
