THE RUM Jungle Motor Inn in Batchelor has earned a reputation as ‘the flashest pub in the scrub’ says operator Jackie Hargreaves.
She and partner Laurie McIntosh have operated the motor inn, which is only fifteen minutes from Litchfield National Park, for thirteen years.
The 22 motel rooms are often completely booked out, even during the wet season. Being on the ground floor, the rooms are convenient for people with disabilities.
Surrounded by bushland, the Inn features conference facilities for up to sixty people.
Ms Hargreaves said the old mining town of Batchelor is a lovely spot with about 450 locals.
Former Darwin resident Eliza-beth Dumont recalls what she thought was going to be a quiet 50th birthday celebration ended up being a crowd of guests who had decided to help her celebrate.
“It was a memorable night,” she said. “Jackie Hargreaves is a caring and efficient hostess.”
