The East Perth Redevelopment Authority is once again calling for expressions of interest for a landmark heritage building on the corner of James and William streets, after an original proposal for a restaurant and late night bar at the site was knocked back by Liquor Licensing.
The site is the last remaining food and beverage site in the precinct (one retail site also remains) and has been vacant since the completion of the redevelopment of 16 of William Street's heritage buildings, as part of the $17 million upgrade of the Perth Cultural Centre.
Restaurateur Nic Trimboli, who owns Leederville's Duende, Perth's Balthazar and is a founder and director of Little World Beverages, had originally been commissioned by EPRA to establish a restaurant, to be called The Latin, at the site but the director of Liquor Licensing, Barry Sergeant, knocked back the tavern license application.
EPRA acting chief executive Ryan Keys said two leasing options are available at the property – either a multi-use single tenancy, or two separate tenancies with potential for a small bar at the rear and a quality café/restaurant on the street front.
“With two street frontages this property is in a prime location close to keyPerthbuildings and urban renewal projects, Mr Keys said.
“The property benefits from its proximity to the new State Theatre Centre, the revitalised Perth Cultural Centre and the Perth City Link project, which will reconnect the city with Northbridge.”
He said unique concepts that "make good use of the alfresco area and courtyard to create an inviting atmosphere for theatre patrons and visitors to Northbridge” would best suit the site.
“It is one of the last chances to become part of an increasingly popular precinct that is rediscovering itself asPerth’s main cultural and entertainment hub.”
Several new food and beverage outlets are set to move into William Street in the next few months including Aisuru Sushi, Ristretto, Flipside Burgers and neighbouring small bar The Mechanic’s Institute, and Jean Pierre Sancho - a French patisserie that established in Hay street in recent years and was recently awarded ‘best bakery inAustralia’.
Expressions of interest for the property close in late November.
