INTERNATIONAL health club company Fitness First Australia will open its fifth health club in Western Australia in September in Innaloo and possibly another two next year. Despite the new opening, local market leader Zest Health Clubs continues to dominate the market with 14 clubs, despite Fitness First’s national dominance comprising 160,000 members in 42 centres. The clubs within the Zest chain have been trading for more than 17 years. Allsports Lifestyle Clubs in Queensland and The Perfect Fit in South Australia merged in October 2001 and, through acquisition of BC The Body Club in WA, the total number of clubs is now 32, with membership numbers around 80,000. Fitness First’s target is to have established 100 centres in Australia by 2010. Both clubs have centres in WA, QLD and SA, but only Fitness First is in NSW and Victoria. Fitness First Australia ranks number two in the WA Business News Book of Lists behind Zest Health Clubs. WA Fitness First locations are Floreat, Balga, Cannington and Perth.
