Woodside has awarded Pöyry contracts worth more than AUD$5.2 million to provide ongoing flow assurance and related process engineering support, as part of the Pluto liquefied natural gas Project, currently under construction in Western Australia.
Pöyry is providing flow assurance and process engineering services from its Perth office for the detailed phase of the Pluto foundation project.The most recent contract awards, worth around AUD$2.5 million, cover the concept phase of different development options for a second Pluto LNG train.
"We have a core team of eight flow assurance specialists working around the clock to meet the fast track project schedule, running Olga and Pipesim models for dynamic and steady state simulation respectively. Everyone in the team has operational experience in gas production facilities hence the flow assurance work generates meaningful results, rather than inconclusive outcomes." said Grant Innes, Pöyry's Perth-based Oil & Gas President.
In one of the longest deepwater tie-backs in the world, the flow assurance studies for Pluto are vital to ensure acceptable fluid flow under all operating conditions. The studies include evaluating the thermal and hydraulic performance of the Pluto production system, from the reservoir through 27 km of subsea flowlines across the Pluto offshore platform and onwards into the 180 km subsea trunkline to the onshore LNG plant.
A significant portion of this work involves hydrate management utilising current world class practices and technologies to address the various steady state and transient operating scenarios. The flow assurance services extend to the development of operating philosophies and manuals, and supporting commissioning and start-up activities.

The Pluto LNG Project is set to become the fastest-ever developed liquefied natural gas project, from discovery of the gas field in 2005 to planned production of first gas in late 2010.
The $12 billion project will process gas from the Pluto and Xena gas fields in the Carnarvon Basin.
The Pluto gas field is estimated to contain a total dry gas recoverable reserve volume of 4.4 trillion cubic feet (Tcf). The smaller Xena field, with an estimated dry gas recoverable reserve volume of 0.6Tcf will also be incorporated into the project.
