Ramsay Health Care has received a funding boost to offer more beds at the soon-to-be open public ward at Joondalup Health Campus, which is part of a $284 million expansion.
The state government has allocated $24 million in the upcoming State Budget 2025/26 towards extra public beds at the campus' recently built public ward block.
The public block has 46 beds, comprising a mix of surgical and cardiac care unit beds.
With the additional $24 million, two floors of the public ward block will undergo a fit out for the extra 60 beds.
A development assessment panel approved the proposal to build a six-storey public ward and a two-storey theatre addition to Joondalup Health campus on Shenton Avenue, in 2023.
The development, estimated to cost $67.2 million, is part of a bigger expansion of the public component of the hospital, which the federal government has contributed $158 million towards.
The expansion was initially estimated to cost $257 million but Business News understands the project's value has increased to $283.9 million.
Ramsay Health Care operates the campus on a site owned by the North Metropolitan Health Service, under a public-private partnership agreement with the state government.
Other works done under the expansion project included a 102-bed mental health unit, extra emergency department beds, refurbished patient lounge, and a multi-storey car park.
Upcoming upgrades include a new theatre and two interventional catheterisation laboratories to replace an existing lab, and shared public/private operating theatres.
“By bringing more beds into Joondalup Health Campus, we’re ensuring our hospitals have the capacity they need to service our state’s growing population," Premier Roger Cook said.

Health Infrastructure Minister John Carey acknowledged there were constraints in the construction sector, impacting upgrades to the hospital.
"It still requires a staged approach... we still have to go out, lock in tenders, etc," he said.
"But the point is, we've brought in $24 million in the budget and we anticipate that we can get these completed by 12 months."
The state budget will be delivered on Thursday.
