LANDCORP will soon release land from its 102-hectare Exmouth Marina Village development project, with a number of tourism, residential and commercial development sites to go to the market.
LandCorp chief executive Ross Holt said that, with development opportunities along Western Australia’s northern coast limited, interest in the development lots had been extremely high.
Central to the internationally renowned Ningaloo Reef, rugged inland gorges and the Cape Range National Park, Exmouth has become a popular tourist destination, with the number of international visitors to the Gascoyne region increasing from 22,000 in 1992 to 62,000 in 1999-2000.
The number of domestic visitors to the Gascoyne region has risen from 25-30 per cent of total visitor numbers in 1999 to 35-40 per cent in 2001-02.
The Exmouth Marina Village was established in partnership with the Shire of Exmouth, the Department for Planning and Infrastructure, the local community and LandCorp and adjoins the existing $15 million boat harbour.
Three development lots are earmarked for a potential canal residential estate, tourist resort area and a mixed used commercial/residential zone.
The 28-hectare residential lot could be subdivided into approximately 128 canal and dry lots and the 13.3ha mixed-use commercial area has potential for residential, commercial, short stay accommodation and cafes/restaurants.
The resort site has an area of 5.54ha, which could support 56 resort units, 53 strata/holiday and 18 residential lots.
There is also an area for servicing the fishing and marine industry and a single 1.07ha lot will be offered to the market within that zone.
Information packs are now available and interested developers have till November 4 to put forward offers and development plans.
