Three Western Australian entrepreneurs will feature in a new documentary about Italian migrants to Australia, produced by City of Perth councillor Eleni Evangel and journalist Sarah Golden.
The film traces the origins of five successful business people, including property developer Luke Saraceni, Salon Express founder Albert Di Lallo and restaurateur Maurizio Di Ciano - all of whom migrated to Perth from the seaside village of Vasto, in the Abruzzo region of Italy.
The half-hour feature, filmed in Perth, the eastern states and Italy, includes footage of the town and interviews with family members.
Ms Evangel said one of the highlights was a scene showing Mr Saraceni being awarded a knighthood by the Italian government during an official delegation's visit to Perth.
"Not even Luke himself knew he was going to be knighted. There was a huge eruption of clapping and he just looked like a stunned mullet when they made the announcement," she said.
Ms Evangel said she decided to make the film three years ago, after meeting a group of community members, led by Mr Di Lallo, who were involved in establishing a monument to WA migrants in East Perth.
She spent 10 days in Italy with co-producer Ms Golden, coinciding with visits by Mr Di Lallo and Mr Di Ciano.
Melbourne-based Sam Tarascio, founder of Salta Properties, was also included in the film.
The documentary will screen on Channel Nine on Friday August 22 at 7.30pm.
