The event is designed to connect innovative business ventures with development capital and will be staged at the State Library next month.
Kate Ingham, WA Pitch '08 Director said, "WA is known for its entrepreneurial spirit and WA Pitch '08 has reinforced this. With the applications from all over WA and from a broad range of sectors, submissions ranged from start-up to established businesses and the quality was high."
"Through the assessment process we were looking for businesses that reflected innovation, a mature business outlook and significant practical market potential," says Angela Hartnett of Enhance Equity, ASSOB consultant and Pitch '08 assessor.
WA Pitch '08 is to be co-hosted by the Australian Small Scale Offerings Board Limited (ASSOB) and the Innovation Centre WA.
The Australian Small Scale Offerings Board will provide the winning business with a listing on the Australian Small Scale Offerings Board, valued at $40,000 (based on an average $500,000 capital raising), a runner-up prize valued at $11,000 and third prize valued at $10,000. The 10 short-listed businesses will receive business mentoring through ASSOB as well as presentation, pitch training and audio-visual resources.
The ten finalists are:
1. Ag-Id Pty Ltd is involved in the provision of DNA-sampling tags for cattle and other livestock for the purpose of food safety and genetic improvement.
2. Alzhyme Pty Ltd is commercializing novel compounds for use in the treatment and early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease.
3. CockySmart Pty Ltd is an organically derived agricultural product which eradicates fleas, ticks and lice infestation on livestock with no side effects.
4. Denuo Holdings Pty Ltd is a startup company with a new wireless device offering simplicity, portability, and choice of personalised information.
5. Finn Cragg Pty Ltd produces short animations and multimedia for education and digital storytelling.
6. Industrial Automation Group is a process-control company focusing on irrigation and grain aeration systems.
7. ParentPlus Pack is a positive behavior management program for children aged 4+, based around a pocket money system.
8. Spartel Pty Ltd is an in-venue glass management system resulting in cost savings, volume reduction and environmental benefits for hospitality and industry.
9. Kingston Technology Systems Pty Ltd is an information-rich project management system designed for mining, utilities and construction industries and;
10. SkyLifter is a heavy-lifting dirigible aircraft able to vertically raise and set down payloads with over 7 times the lifting capacity of the largest helicopter. It offers industry a greater logistics capability and flexibility.
