Eastland's ClipOn awarded European regulatory approval

West Perth company Eastland Medical Systems Ltd announced that UK based Response Medical Equipment Ltd has obtained European regulatory approval for its ClipOn hypodermic needle, clearing the way for commercial sales in European markets.

In June, the company achieved a major milestone with its first substantial export order confirmed for ClipOn.

The company also acquired 100 per cent of Westcoast Surgical & Medical Supplies earlier this year.

At market close, Eastland was down 4 per cent to 12 cents.

Eastland Medical Systems Ltd (Eastland.) today announced that UK based Response Medical Equipment Ltd (Response) has obtained European regulatory approval for ClipOnTM

ClipOnTM is a unique retractable safe needle device that will assist in reducing needlestick injury.

The approval clears the way for the first commercial sales in the European markets.

Currently there are more than 1 million needlestick injuries occur in Europe each year.

Yesterday, Eastland. was informed by Response a wholly owned subsidiary of International Medical Devices PLC, that the leading quality certification group and notified body appointed by the European authorities SGS that it had been awarded CE mark approval.

The CE mark is the European regulatory approval for medical devices and will provide access to the 28 European countries with a total population of 445 million people.

Beyond the European markets, the award of the CE mark is a key component for future approvals in Asia- Pacific and South American countries.

Eastland Chief Executive Officer Dermot Patterson said that with the award of the CE mark, the commercial rollout of ClipOnTM would commence in Europe where there were significant commercial opportunities for ClipOnTM.

"Response is well advanced in the UK with discussions with the NHS and this should facilitate ClipOnTM moving to market acceptance," said Mr. Patterson
