West Perth-based Eastland Medical Systems Ltd has signed a seven year contract with Belgian company Tricolast NV to distribute its unique, scar reducing silicone dressing - Scarban - to the Australian market.
The product it to be supplied through wholly-owned EMS subsidiary Westcoast Surgical & Medical Supplies.
EMS CEO Dermot Patterson said: "Scarban has already received TGA approval and distribution is expected to begin in March 2007. A series of local clinical trials to demonstrate Scarban's effectiveness will begin next month.
"The current Australian market for silicone dressings is estimated to be worth about $1,000,000 per annum, increasing to $5,000,000 over the next three years. We expect to capture 50 per cent of this market within three years.
"Scarban's longevity and durability offers major advantages over its competitors, without compromising on quality. We expect the product will achieve significant market uptake due to the considerable benefits it offers over other dressings," he said.
Scarban will be initially supplied to Occupational Therapists followed by Hand Therapists, Cosmetic and Plastic Surgeons, Burns Units, Silver Chain, GPs and then to the retail market via pharmacies.
"The team at Westcoast has already begun working with Clinical Specialists across the country to drive sales," Mr Patterson said.
