Trouble plagued automated ticketing company ERG Limited has been advised that its agreement with Sydney's public transport authority will be terminated next month after it failed to meet particular milestones in the project schedule.
ERG has been building and installing the Sydney ticketing system since February 2003 and, like several other big projects it is implementing around the world, it has been adversely affected by cost increases and schedule delays.
Sydney's Public Transport Ticketing Corporation (TPPC) has invited the public to participate in trials of the new system.
"Due to delays in the technical development of the system and certain customers actions ERG has failed to achieve particular milestones in the project schedule," the Balcatta-based company said in a statement.
"Consequently the company has received notices from the PTTC of its intention to terminate the agreement on or about 3 December 2007."
ERG said it is currently developing a plan for completion of the project, which it is entitled to submit during the notice period.
"If the PTTC accepts the proposal it may grant ERG a further period in which to complete the project."
