Western Australia’s environmental regulator has recommended approval of Murchison Metals’ plans to expand the Jack Hills iron ore mine in the Mid West.
The Environmental Protection Authority said the proposed expansion from 1.8 million tonnes per annum to more than 20 Mtpa of iron ore concentrates could be managed to meet its objectives, subject to certain conditions.
The EPA recommendation is now subject to a 14-day public review.
Crossland Resources chief executive Andrew Caruso said the recommendation was a significant milestone.
“Crossland welcomes the EPA’s recommendation and is confident of securing final environmental approval later this year.
Murchison holds a 50 per cent interest in Crossland Resources with Japan’s Mitsubishi development.
The Jack Hills expansion plan received the federal environmental tick of approval in April.
At close of trade today Murchison’s stock had dropped 3.6 per cent, to finish trade at 66.5 cents.
