Advanced Engine Components Ltd is pleased to announce the Dongfeng Nanchong Automobile Co Ltd 6.9 litre natural gas engine, incorporating ACE's natural gas vehicle system, has successfully completed the European Transient Cycle exhaust emission certification procedures to Euro 3 standards.
Donfeng is the third of China's five largest original equipment heavy duty engine manufacturers, using ACE's NGVS, to have their engines Euro 3 certified. Euro 3 is a generation ahead of the Euro 2 emission standard currently applied by Chinese regulatory authorities.
Dongfeng is part of the Dongfeng Motor Group which is one of China's top three largest automotive manufacturers and is listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Dongfeng specialises in the "clean fuel" operations of the group.
The 6.9 litre NG engine will now be subjected to reliability and thermal impact testing on the dynamometer and 2 months on road reliability and vehicle testing before vehicles, incorporating the Dongfeng/ACE NG engine, are offered for commercial sale. Dongfeng is contractually committed to order and take delivery of hundreds of ACE NGVS kits as soon as final testing is completed.
Euro 3 certification of the 6.9 litre NG engine has been achieved in a minimal time frame with development having commenced in August 2006. ACE is now working with Dongfeng on a lower cost, single point version of the 6.9 litre, multi point, Dongfeng/ACE NG engine.
Dongfeng has been manufacturing and marketing NG engines since 1997 and is the largest NG engine provider in China. Dongfeng's manufacturing base, in Nanchong City, Sichuan Province, has an annual production capacity of 20,000 NG engines and 30,000 vehicles.
Certification of the Dongfeng/ACE 6.9 litre NG engine to Euro 3 standard means ACE will have three of China's largest heavy duty engine manufacturers marketing a wide range of NG engines, incorporating the ACE NGVS, throughout China and Asia by 30 June 2007.
