THE Federal Government has announced plans to develop a digital signature process to facilitate its dealings with Australian businesses.
It is believed this will help ensure federal online services to small business and electronic commerce opportunities are more easily available.
The online signature, which authenticates the identity of each business, is likely to be linked to the Australian Business Number.
The government has also announced plans to develop a single government supplier register to help online government procurement.
The signature and register are parts of the Single Window to Government approach being adopted in Australia.
Using the signature should mean a business will only need to provide its details or regulatory information online once.
This information could then by used by a range of Federal and
possibly even State Government agencies.
The WA Government has already moved down the online procurement road with the Department of Contract and Management Services trialling its system last year.
