WA Business News has appointed Howard Digby to the newly created position of executive editor.
Mr Digby has been interstate and overseas for 23 years, the past 12 in Hong Kong. During that time, he has performed leadership roles with The Economist Group, Gartner and Adobe. He graduated from the University of Western Australia and started his working life with IBM in Perth.
The appointment is part of this newspaper’s strategy to continually evolve against the backdrop of a rapidly changing media landscape and opportunities presented by new technology.
WA Business News executive chairman Elton Swarts said he was excited to welcome Mr Digby to the new role, providing him with the mandate to lead the editorial team in an exciting new phase for the business.
He said the appointment marked an innovative step for WA Business News, blending Mr Digby’s international commercial experience and strong knowledge of digital media with Mark Beyer and Mark Pownall’s proven track record as two of the state’s most experienced business journalists and commentators.
Mr Digby said that, “Since returning to Perth, I’ve found that WA Business News has been extraordinarily well received by the local business community. The newspaper and its related services such as signature events and information solutions will continue to innovate and adapt along with the needs of our readers and clients.”
Mark Beyer takes up the role of news editor and will drive the daily and weekly news cycle, continuing to deliver quality, timely content that supports WA Business News’s mission of “helping business grow”. This role allows Mr Beyer to fully utilise his strengths as a leading business news editor and journalist.
Mark Pownall will continue in his role as editor at large, providing in-depth commentary and analysis on business and political issues affecting WA.
