The nearly 50,000 delegates expected to visit the new Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre in its first year of operation, are being targeted by a tourism incentive program.
An ‘Explore WA’ card will be supplied to every delegate who attends a conference at the PCEC offering a range of incentives, deals and discounts from more than 150 tourism-related businesses in the State.
A booklet categorised into “travel time” sections will highlight each product or service and the discount available.
‘Explore WA’ was launched this week by the Tourism Minister Bob Kucera, PCEC chief executive Paul D’Arcy and Skywest managing director Scott Henderson.
Mr D’Arcy said because WA was classed as a long haul destination, many visitors would commonly stay in the State for between seven and 10 days after a conference.
“Research shows they spend, on average, around $600 a day and often bring their families,” he said.
“The program is designed to encourage conference delegates to experience WA’s diverse range of products and services pre, during and post their visit to the Perth centre.”
It is anticipated about 100,000 people will visit the PCEC annually to attend conferences.
The PCEC will officially be opened on August 26.
