DORIC estimates the strategic alliance with Projenco provides it with the capabilities to increase revenues by $50m annually, as it targets WA's booming resources industry and public sector construction projects.
DORIC's first foray into engineering construction has been highly successful, with the company soon to complete five railway stations on the new Perth to Mandurah southern rail line on budget and ahead of schedule, as part of a $67m State Government contract.
Projenco provides management consulting advice in strategic relationships, leadership, teamwork and business excellence and has provided services on major projects with capital costs of up to A$1 billion, including the expansion of BHP Billiton's Port Hedland operations, the Perth Seawater Desalination Plant, the new Perth to Bunbury Highway Project for Southern Gateway Consortium and the Phelps Dodge Tenke Fungurume Mining Project in Africa.
DORIC Business Development Manager Keith Somers said the Projenco alliance, which included the appointment of three of Projenco's leading advisors, would provide DORIC with additional strategic advice and technical experience needed to build the company's construction engineering division.
"Projenco is well respected in WA's engineering sector for their expertise and knowledge on major infrastructure projects and we look forward to leveraging that experience to further bolster our construction engineering division.
"The move to engineering construction is a natural progression for DORIC, having successfully built our commercial building construction and property business during the past 17 years through our capacity to retain staff and by remaining committed to safety, quality and excellence in all our systems and management." Mr Somers said.
Mr Somers said DORIC would offer engineering, procurement, construction and maintenance services, targeting projects which required the delivery of concrete structures, industrial buildings, materials handling facilities, piping, power and lighting and process plants.
DORIC is expected to turn over $300 million this fiscal year on the back of new government and private sector construction projects.
Projenco Directors Des Alach, Greg Elliott and Peter Walkemeyer have been appointed to DORIC. All have extensive experience with general management, business development, strategic planning, analysis and management of construction engineering businesses and projects.
Mr Alach said DORIC's primary target would be blue chip companies operating in WA's resources sector and State Government departments developing engineering public infrastructure projects.
"Our view on WA's engineering sector is that the large degree of growth experienced over the past four years will continue delivering opportunities of the same scale for at least the next three years," Mr Alach said.
In 2004, DORIC's directors set a new strategic plan to treble the size of the business by 2011. The target was achieved within the first two years by recording consistent revenue from its construction projects, acquiring construction group Jaxon and securing more than $170m worth of engineering and property development projects.
DORIC was recently named the overall winner of the WA Master Builders' Association 'Excellence in Construction Award' for the $17m Blackswan/Bluescope Steel processing facility at Forrestfield. The company was also a category winner in the MBA Awards for the construction of the $40m Holiday Inn project at Burswood.
DORIC's operational systems recently saw the company become Australia's first construction company in Australia to be recognised in the prestigious Australian Business Excellence Awards. The awards recognise organisational excellence and business improvement systems.
