Country more than one market: report

MANY WA companies make the mistake of thinking of the US as one market, according to a report on US trade and investment opportunities by the Department of Commerce and Trade.

“The US, due to its size and regional diversity, cannot be considered a single market,” the report said.

“WA companies should identify a target market or a niche area and focus their energies in that direction. Different geographic regions have developed different industry strengths that require a targeted approach to ensure successful export development.

“These regional divisions are based on a mix of physical, historical and socio-economic criteria. Within each of these regions, there are numerous markets, cities and other unique sub-regions which may represent a potential business opportunity.”

The report’s purpose is to identify trade and investment opportunities for WA firms involved with the export of goods and services to the US, among the $A1,414 billion being imported into the US each year from global sources.
