Macquarie has placed a swathe of Wheatbelt farmland on the market in a move which could fetch more than $35 million.
Macquarie’s $4 billion agriculture vehicle has placed a large swathe of northern Wheatbelt farmland on the market in a move which could fetch more than $35 million for investors.
Viridis Ag’s 13,000-hectare Alcheringa aggregation near Three Springs comprises four farms, which have been placed on the market to sell as a package or separately.
The combined properties could fetch Macquarie more than $35 million if they meet land value estimates for the area outlined this year by Rural Bank.
Viridis has been using the farms since 2020 for canola, lupin and wheat production, with the latter recording a 1.63-tonne-per-hectare yield in recent years.
The sale is understood to be largest swathe of farmland placed on the market in Western Australia this year.
Other prominent corporate farm deals this year include the $7.45 million sale of about 3,300 hectares of Badgingarra farmland to Woodside in February, and Viridis Ag’s $5.3 million acquisition of 1,300 hectares in Jerramungup.
Merredin Farms 78,000-hectare portfolio is still on the market, having been listed last year by Saudi Agricultural and Livestock Investment Company and WA’s PenAgri.
Viridis Ag entered the corporate farming market in 2017 with the purchase of the 16,700-hectare The Grange property near Dongara for a rumoured $32 million.
It currently holds more than 113,000 hectares of farmland in WA, South Australia, and New South Wales across 12 aggregations.
LAWD senior director Danny Thomas is handling the sale alongside director Simon Wilkinson.
Both agents declined to comment on the listing.
Macquarie Agriculture is regarded as the second largest investor in Australian farmland by value, with a $4 billion-plus portfolio of assets.
The sale is being managed by LAWD.
Viridis will still hold 9,400 hectares of farmland in the region following the sale through its nearby Arawa aggregation.
Other WA Viridis aggregations include The Grant, the 11,200-hecate Amarinya and 13,200-hectare Tantanoola near Jerramungup, 9,300-hectare Bindi Bidni properties near Moora, and the 8,300-hectare Yupiri site near Esperance.
