Karijini National Park’s $16 million worth of upgrades will commence next month with contractor Raubex Construction to break ground on major road upgrades.
Canning Vale-based Raubex will deliver 41 kilometers of sealed road within the nation park, inlcuding from the Karijini Eco Retreat north to the Weano day use area and car park.
The successful tenderer will also seal Banjima Drive North to provide better connections across to the Karijini Visitor Centre.
Raubex will commence the roadworks next month and work through the low visitor season to complete the upgrades in 2024.
The $16 million worth of upgrades also includes a new lookout at Knox Gorge to be built during 2024, according to the state government.
The national park will remain open to visitors during the infrastructure upgrades, which is expected to create 55 jobs during construction.
"Karijini National Park is one of WA's most internationally recognised destinations, last year attracting more than 650,000 visits, including from international tourists,” Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti said.
"Enhancing the park's infrastructure will provide greater access to the Pilbara and ensure the region and our State remains a top tourism destination for years to come."
Pilbara MLA Kevin Michel said the important upgrades represented an exciting future for the Karijini National Park.
"This $16 million dollar transformation will improve tourism in the park as well as creating a safer environment and conditions for travellers in years to come,” he said.
South Africa-headquartered Raubex established its Western Australian engineering and construction operations in 2019.
It has previously delivered work for the state government through the Bussell Highway project, under which it was contracted to deliver $14 million worth of roadwork.
