Contracting overhaul recommended

A MAJOR overhaul of the WA Government’s contracting system is expected to benefit small and regional businesses.

Both the Crown Solicitor and a Ministerial Consultative Commit-tee chaired by Bob Bloffwitch made recommendations aimed at improving the contracting system.

The Crown Solicitor also recommended the State Supply Commis-sion Act be repealed and replaced by whole-of-government contracting policies.

However, Works and Services Minister Rob Johnson said it could take months or even years before new laws were enacted.

A number of changes will be made instead including the establishment of a process review panel to handle complaints.
