The City of Perth has called on the state government to withdraw attempts to resume privately-held land in Northbridge, following moves late last to develop a new police station on land owned by entrepreneur Graham Hardie.
Below is the City of Perth's press release:
At a Special Council Meeting held at 5.30pm on Monday, January 8, 2007, the Council of the City of Perth met to discuss concerns over the State Government's plans to resume privately owned land to construct a Police "Lock-up" Complex on the corner of Roe Street and Lake Street.
The Elected Members voted unanimously in support of the motion put before the Special Council Meeting.
1. The Elected Members of the City of Perth Council condemn the State Government for its repugnant act of compulsorily resuming the privately owned land on the corner of Lake and Roe Streets, Northbridge to construct a major police lock-up complex;
2. In the best interests of Northbridge and the Aussie tradition of "A Fair Go", the Elected Members of the City of Perth Council appeal to the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure, the Hon. Alannah MacTiernan MLA, to reverse her decision on the compulsory resumption of the private property detailed in part 1 above.
