Bauxite Resources' plans to ramp-up its North Bindoon operation have been dealt a blow after the Shire of Chittering declined the company's planning approval.
At a special shire council meeting held on Wednesday the council resolved to decline "planning approval" related to the shire's local government town planning scheme for Bauxite's proposed stage 2 extractive industries bauxite quarrying licence.
Had Bauxite received approval, it was expected that operations would start in the first quarter of next year.
Bauxite said the Chittering shire president said that the company's proposed stage 2 operation had now progressed to a "mining" stage and would in its view fall under a higher regulatory regime.
"To this end the Company is progressing the advancement of its proposed Stage 2 ramp up mining activities under the relevant regulatory authorities," Bauxite said in a statement.
The company's intends to develop a number of bauxite pits as part of its direct shipping ore business plan throughout its Darling Range tenement holdings taking advantage of existing infrastructure.
Shares in Bauxite shed five cents to 90c at 12:39 AEDT.
