Chefs challenge IT shortage

WHILE it is no secret information technology jobs are in high demand, a chef shortage is sweeping Australia.

According to an article on the Seek website, the demand for chefs has risen 100 per cent in the past year.

Construction trades, accountancy and auditing are also areas were demand is strong.

J Corp director Julian Walter said much of the construction industry skills shortage came from the misconceptions of school leavers.

Mr Walter said school leavers often thought of the building industry as a blue collar one.

“However, we have 300 staff in our office who are estimators, schedulers – all white collar jobs,” he said.

“This is something vocationally that we have to address.”
