Cats to strut at Esplanade

n COUNCIL has given approval for Really Useful Productions to stage its production of the musical Cats on the Esplanade Reserve. The production is expected to run from November 11 to December 11. Really Useful Productions is being charged $35,000 to use 15,000 square metres of the reserve. The staging of the Saltimbanco Cirque du Soleil on the Esplanade Reserve had proved a huge success.

n ANOTHER hole in the CBD skyline could soon be plugged with council’s approval of a development for the corner of Wellington and Barrack streets. The 365 square metre site next to the Grand Central Hotel has been vacant since 1995. A three-storey office and retail complex is planned for the site. A large hotel complex had been planned for the site but that project fell over. Councillor Michael Sutherland said that while the development was not as exciting as the hotel, it would fill a skyline hole.
