INSOLVENCY practitioner John Carello has joined the Grant Thornton partnership in Perth, partnering with high-profile peer Tony Douglas-Brown.While the details of the appointment and the business strategy behind Mr Carello’s move were not clear at the time of publication, telephone calls to his former firm Dickson Carello were referred to Grant Thornton.Mr Carello formed Dickson Carello Chartered Accountants with Richard Dickson in 2004 after leaving PKF’s insolvency practice.He has been involved in several high-profile cases, including administrator of Tuart Resources, a mining float that collapsed after buying into the wine business associated with failed managed investment scheme vineyard, Preston Vale.Mr Carello was also the receiver of controversial finance broking firm Knightsbridge.Mr Douglas-Brown’s extensive experience includes involvement in the restructure or review of more than 400 enterprises and public companies. Among his appointments in recent years was as administrator of Brandrill.Mr Carello’s move comes at the end of a great deal of change in the second-tier accounting world, during which his new colleagues at Grant Thornton moved from the Bentleys MRI stable.Insolvency practitioners are expecting a big rise in business in the short-term as the boom recedes.
