Career help at hand

HELP is at hand for thousands of people wanting to explore their training and education options.

The departments of Employment and Training and Education have joined forces to offer the CareerOne 2000 service.

It is expected people looking to upgrade existing skills will join thousands of school leavers in seeking the latest information on what TAFE, other training providers and mature-age education campuses have to offer.

Training Info Centre manager Dorothy Toussaint said her centre helped 47,300 people last year.

“There is a perception that the service is for people who were disappointed with their TEE results,” Dr Toussaint said.

“The truth is TAFE is now the first choice for many students and a number of people we will be helping will have got better than expected results.

“In fact many enquiries come from people whose thoughts only turn to training as TAFE prepares its second-round offers, including those wanting a career change or boost their qualifications,” she said.
