New car sales have again fallen in Western Australia, down 2.2 per cent in the first two months of the year compared with 2015, with Holden and Hyundai the worst hit, according to Vfacts.
Around 8,700 new cars were sold in February, down 1.4 per cent on that period last year, and dramatically contrasting with a 6.7 per cent jump in sales nationally.
Only the Northern Territory and Tasmania did worse in February, down 3.7 per cent and 6.4 per cent respectively.
More than 96,000 cars were sold in February nationally.
In WA, it was passenger and heavy commercial vehicles that fared the worst, down 13.4 per cent and 13.5 per cent in the year to date respectively.
Results were mixed across marques.
Holden sales were 205 cars lower for February 2016 than in 2015 at 618, a drop of 24.9 per cent, while Hyundai sales of 785 cars represented a fall of 22 per cent.
Honda and Ford were looking up, however.
The Japanese brand posted a 13.3 per cent rise in February sales on last year, to 282, while Ford sold 650 cars, up 29.2 per cent.
The state’s most popular car brand, Toyota, was roughly steady, down 0.2 per cent with 1,710 sales.
Japan and Thailand were the most popular nations across the market.
Notably casualties in commercial sales were Mitsubishi Fuso, Kenworth, Scania and Hino, while Freightliner and Volvo Commerical picked up business.
Only three electric cars were sold in February.
