Privately-owned engineering and contracting company Calibre Global has announced its fifth acquisiton in the past two years, with the purchase of Melbourne-based infrastructure services firm Brown Consulting.
Brown Consulting is focused on structural, civil and environmental engineering with more than 300 staff across offices in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, the ACT and Singapore.
Calibre Global Managing Director Rod Baxter said: “With this acquisition, we continue to build industry’s most comprehensive, sole-source, engineering and project delivery capability.”
“We believe Brown Consulting will prove to be an excellent fit with our existing business, and will further enhance our service offerings for clients as well as extending our market reach.”
Calibre said its workforce has grown to 1,600 and it anticipates group revenue will jump from $295 million in the 2011 financial year to more than $500 million in the current financial year.
The Brown Consulting deal follows a number of acquisitions Calibre has executed over the last two years, including the rail joint venture Calibre Engenium, the Brisbane-based Joharko Engineers and Xstract Mining Consultants, and the Melbourne based Minerva Engineers.
Following the acquisition, the Brown Consulting name will be retained, as will the firm’s existing management structure and staff.
Brown Consulting Managing Director Gary Spence said: “This is the start of a new era for our company, giving our staff the opportunity to provide civil and structural engineering services on major resource projects. Being part of a larger company also means that we will be able to more readily fulfill our growth objectives.”
Its main focus has been iron ore and rail projects. Its head office is in Perth and its has branch offices in Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Mongolia.
