Industry Minister Ian Macfarlane today announced $64,000 in Australian Government funding to commercialise an innovative product that helps people with balance disorders.
Mr Macfarlane said Eye Diagnostics Pty Ltd, of Perth, would share in over $3 million through the latest round of Commercial Ready and Commercialising Emerging Technologies (COMET) funding.
"This device is simple enough for patients to handle themselves while still being able to reliably capture quality images of the eye," Mr Macfarlane said.
"It's portable and lightweight and able to be head-mounted in order to monitor time-of-attack eye movements of patients with balance disorders."
"To be commercially viable the device needed to be robust yet inexpensive, setting the requirement for simplicity of design and minimal components."
"From a clinical perspective it had to be simple to use yet capture minute rapid eye movements of sufficient resolution to allow diagnosis, irrespective of variations in head shape and eye position." [Contact: Eye Diagnostics Pty Ltd, Katherine Lewkowski 0407 370 282]
