The state's corruption watchdog has dropped charges against former Labor MP Shelley Archer after the Director of Public Prosecutions said a trial would not be in the public interest.
In a statement today, the Corruption and Crime Commission defended its move to lay two corruption charges because it believed there was a prima facie case.
However on review of the material, the DPP decided it was unlikely it would get a conviction, and a that a prosecution was not in the public interest.
"The decision not to proceed was one for the DPP to make and of course the Commission respects that decision," CCC Commissioner Len Roberts-Smith QC said.
Ms Archer, the wife of union heavyweight Kevin Reynolds, was alleged to have given a confidential letter to former premier turned lobbyist Brian Burke and his business partner Julian Grill.
The letter from the Broome shire had been addressed to then Planning Minister Alannah MacTiernan and concerned the relocation of Broome International Airport.
Messrs Burke and Grill had been acting on behalf of Broome Airport.
