Western Australian grain handler Cooperative Bulk Handling has given the final go ahead for a $100 million dollar upgrade to the Albany port terminal.
CBH has appointed Leighton Contractors to undertake construction of the upgrade, which is scheduled to commence this month.
The CBH upgrade will include improvements to an internal conveyer system, loading and unloading facilities and improvements to truck and rail delivery.
The construction of 10 6,000-tonne storage cells will be a major component of the upgrade and will facilitate greater separation of different grain grades.
The state-of-the-art upgrade is the last in a series CBH has been making at its port facilities in Western Australia.
While the upgrade is considered to secure the port’s future in its current location, there is concern about its encroachment on the nearby CBD.
Albany Port Authority welcomed the announcement.
