In the face of global competition and a major resources boom, a privately owned Australian air compression and power generation company has won two supply contracts for one of the largest undeveloped gold mines in the world.
CAPS Australia has won the contracts to supply industrial air blowers and compressors worth almost $2m to Joint Venture operators (Newmont and AngloGold Ashanti) at the proposed A$2b Boddington Gold Mine project in Western Australia.
The company has recently secured contracts worth in excess of $A10m for major resource and commercial projects for clients including ASX-listed BHP Billiton, Golden Star Resources (Bogoso gold mine Ghana), the Brisbane City Tunnel, VisyPak, Sydney Olympic Park and the WA Water Corporation (Perth Seawater Desalination Plant).
The newly won Boddington mine contract will see CAPS provide industrial blowers to be used for flotation tanks in the ore separation process and for the provision of air compressors, dryers and filters to power various components of the mine's plant control systems.
CAPS (Compressed Air and Power Solutions) is a major supplier of industrial compressors, generators and blowers to commercial, automotive, mining, oil and gas clients in Australia and overseas and has rapidly grown within its 26 years to a national operation with almost 200 employees.
The company's turnover has been growing at 20 per cent per annum, for the past three years and is currently in excess of A$50 million, with more than three quarters of the revenue coming from the east coast and overseas projects.
Founder and Managing Director of CAPS Australia, Bob McIntyre said it was an outstanding achievement to secure the contract for such a significant resources project in WA having outbid a number of global mining services providers.
"We are delighted to secure these contracts for such a significant resources project in WA, given that the consultant engineers AKCMR had a global procurement policy and we won it in the face of pretty fierce overseas competition," he said.
"Our achievement in securing the Boddington contract is due to our recognition as an industry leader in custom supplied blowers and compressors for mineral processing - and for our capacity to provide 'on the ground' expertise to assist with the installation, commissioning, technical support and spare parts maintenance for major resources and commercial projects.
"We are currently working on similar sized projects in Ghana, the Congo, Portugal, Mexico, Bulgaria, Korea and PNG - in the last ten years, we have exported to 23 countries and we expect that to grow further in the near future.
"Our strategic plan is to double our size, revenue and growth in the next three years and our recent acquisition of NZ company Fox Air - the sole distributor of Ingersoll Rand Air Solution products in New Zealand - demonstrates we are on track to achieve these goals.
Most of CAPS contracts are processed through its Welshpool manufacturing facility in Western Australia. CAPS recently signed an agreement with the leading manufacturer of air compressors, Ingersoll Rand, to be the sole distributor of Ingersoll Rand Air Solutions Products (Compressors) and Vehicle Solutions Products (Air Tools) in Australia and NZ.
