Local business leaders are quietly optimistic about the prospects for improved trade with Indonesia following the recent appointment of the country’s new cabinet, according to the Australia-Indonesia Business Council.
Trade links between Western Australia and Indonesia are strong and local businesses with operations in Indonesia have eagerly been awaiting the cabinet appointments.
Indonesian president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) announced the cabinet appointments following his inauguration last week.
Australia-Indonesia Business Council WA chairman Ross Taylor said the new cabinet looked “fairly good”.
He said there was little doubt that the new president would be very comfortable in dealing with Australia.
He also highlighted the appointment of Abdurrahman Saleh as the country’s attorney-general, and Mari Pangestu as trade minister as positive signs.
