A large portion of Bullsbrook is set to be opened up for development, with the state government moving to rezone 362 hectares in the suburb to allow for the construction of residential, retail and commercial buildings.
Planning Minister Rita Saffioti said the rezoning would provide opportunities for developers to meet future housing needs and revitalise Bullsbrook, while also supporting new schools and recreational areas.
She said the rezoned land could ultimately accommodate more than 5,000 dwellings.
The land is currently zoned as rural and are proposed to be rezoned to urban and urban deferred.
“These amendments are a continuation of the government's coordinated planning approach to managing land supply and future development in the north-east corridor,” Ms Saffioti said in a statement.
"Together, they will open up enough land to last well into the future and transition Bullsbrook from a semi-rural township to a thriving urban community.”
Swan Hills MLA Jessica Shaw said the rezoning would provide for future development opportunities and struck the right balance between job creation, environmental values and community development.
