The state government has awarded the Stage Two contract to build the $2 billion Fiona Stanley Hospital in Murdoch to Brookfield Multiplex.
Health Minister Kim Hames said Brookfield Multiplex had already completed work on the design and early construction of the hospital on time and on budget, as part of Stage One of the two-stage managing contractor process.
"Brookfield Multiplex's appointment as managing contractor for Stage Two of the construction of the State's biggest infrastructure project is a major milestone for the hospital," Dr Hames said.
Dr Hames said that signing of the $1.63 billion Stage Two contract is on schedule, highlighting that Fiona Stanley is on time and budget as set out in the original business case in 2007.
Stage One of the contract was awarded in March 2009 and, in the past 18 months, Brookfield Multiplex has worked closely with the Department of Health towards completing the design of the hospital and commence building.
Construction work is already well advanced on the education and pathology; and main hospital buildings, and work is due to start on the $255.7 million Federal Government-funded State rehabilitation service later this year.
The State rehabilitation service has been incorporated into the scope of Fiona Stanley Hospital, increasing the total value of the project from $1.76billion to $2.02billion.
Brookfield Multiplex's joint managing director John Flecker said it was rare to be able to build one of Australia's major tertiary hospitals from the ground up.
"We relish the opportunity to deliver this hospital for the people of Western Australia," Mr Flecker said.
