Civil contractor Brierty Limited (ASX: BYL) is pleased to announce it has secured new construction and mining business worth more than $20m.
The projects, which will commence in March and complete during calendar year 2010, include:
Additional funding received from Main Roads WA for the Access Alliance project to upgrade the Great Northern Highway
The rehabilitation of the Pillara Mine in the Kimberley Region of Western Australia for Lennard Shelf Pty Ltd, jointly owned by Xstrata and Teck Resources
Construction of stage one of a 221 lot housing estate in Perth's South Western suburbs for Cedar Woods Properties Limited and the WA Department of Housing
Brierty Managing Director Stuart Crofts said the additional business confirmed the company's view that business activity across Brierty's targeted sectors was improving.
"Brierty's business model is based on maintaining a portfolio of projects across the construction and mining divisions, so it is pleasing for us to see new opportunities emerging across the full spectrum of our operations," Mr Crofts said.
"As the WA economy responds to the recovery in demand for resources we expect to be well placed to take advantage of further opportunities in the mining, energy and construction sectors."
The additional funding from Main Roads WA for the Access Alliance project brings the anticipated total value of the alliance work to $107.5m. The main focus of the additional funds is the realignment of a substandard section on the busy Great Northern Highway just south of Bindoon which will improve safety for road users.
The Pillara Mine Rehabilitation project represents a unique opportunity to rehabilitate the former zinc mine, which has been decommissioned by Lennard Shelf Pty Ltd. The project scope includes rehabilitating the tailings storage facility and ponds, demolition and removal of hardstand areas, and drainage.
Brierty's leading position in Land Development projects continues with its selection to construct the Harrisdale Green subdivision located south east of Perth. The masterplanned development is a Cedar Woods Properties Limited and Department of Housing Joint Venture Development representing best practice in community development, sustainability and housing design.
Brierty is responsible for the development of the site from clearing to final preparation of the lots for sale, including the establishment of roads and provision of utilities such as water, sewerage and power.
Mr Crofts said the contract wins had provided Brierty with a positive start to the 2010 calendar year.
"We have built an excellent platform for future growth and are well placed to take advantage of an expected improvement in business conditions during 2010 and into 2011," Mr Crofts said.
