The state government has established a set of guidelines to promote and encourage Aboriginal participation in civil construction and landscaping.
The guidelines, a collaborative effort between LandCorp and the Civil Contractors Federation, will build capacity in the engagement, training and employment of Aboriginal people, Lands Minister Brendon Grylls said.
"A working group was formed with key indigenous groups also participating and together they developed this set of working guidelines aimed at achieving sustainable growth in Aboriginal employment and economic development," Mr Grylls said.
"This is an absolutely fantastic outcome that shows what can be achieved when you have a strong, practical commitment on the part of everyone in the employment chain, from the person seeking work to the training and support organisations, public and/or private developers and employers."
The CCF will continue to be assisted by other government agencies, most notably the Department of Training and Workforce Development and the Department of Indigenous Affairs, both represented at the launch of the guidelines by Training and Workforce Development Minister Peter Collier.
"For their part, individual contractors will work with LandCorp and the CCF to continuously improve the guidelines and manage their practical implementation across the industry," Mr Collier said.
"But they are just a starting point and, over time, the guidelines will evolve as the partners consider and develop new and better ways to help achieve long-term improvements in the lives of indigenous Australians."
