Bond’s green thumb haunts Alkimos

Many of Alan Bond’s supporters reckon one of his flaws was being too far ahead of the pack. At least three decades ahead of the pack, in the case of one land development in an area of Perth where the joke South Geraldton becomes a little too real. The Note’s faint glimmer of a memory was recalled with news that Peet Ltd had paid $300 million for a parcel of land at Alkimos, 40km north of Perth. Folklore has it that one quirky part of Alkimos’ history is that Bondy’s pals sprayed the sand dunes green in order to make the land look a bit more attractive as he spruiked the area to investors, including the proposed development at Yanchep. The good old days, huh?
