Bree Maddox and Malcolm Day have re-opened the main bar of The Court Hotel in Beaufort Street following extensive renovations. The hard work is obvious to walkers by, with lots of eye-catching crystal chandeliers hanging over a stunning main bar offset by a dark brown interior. But not all the redevelopment work is done. The Court’s kitchen is about six weeks away from completion.
When it is, Ms Maddox told Gusto, we can expect some good food to be dished up. She says they’ve secured the services of an award-winning chef, who she declined to name. The venue will also soon sport an outdoor pizzeria. The pub’s facelift, however, does not mean the business has shifted its focus away from its patrons who have called The Court their local for many years.

Millbrook Winery’s 2007 Sauvignon Blanc is yet to find its way on to the retail shelves, but it has made it to the top of the pack at the Royal Adelaide Wine Show. The wine was awarded gold in the sauvignon blanc from any vintage category. The wine will be released on November 1. Millbrook, which is owned by Peter Fogarty, won gold and the trophy prize in the sauvignon blanc category at last year’s show. Millbrook senior winemaker Damian Hutton said it proved the consistency of its product.

Also winning an award recently was Howard Park’s Madfish label. The Madfish Riesling won its fifth gold medal at the 2007 Rutherglen Wine Show in Victoria. This time the award went to its latest vintage, the 2007 Madfish Riesling, which is produced using fruit entirely from the Great Southern region.
