On Wednesday August 25 the Securities Institute will hold a corporate briefing on biotechnology.

Keynote speakers will be Eiffel Technologies Limited managing director and CEO Christine Cussen, Chemeq Limited chairman and CEO Dr Graham Melrose, EpiTan Limited Managing director Wayne Millen and Peptech Limited executive chairman Mel Bridges.

Ms Cussen has worked in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries for more than 25 years.

She will speak about Eiffel Technologies’ work developing and commercialising a range of drug reengineering platforms to improve drug performance and extend patent life.

Founder of Chemeq, Dr Melrose, will speak about Chemeq’s core product focus for pigs and poultry, which supersede the use of human antibiotics for growth purposes in animals.

Dr Millen, who founded EpiTan has extensive experience in venture and development capital investment.

He will address attendees on EpiTan’s developments in the prevention of DNA and skin damage from exposure to ultra-violet radiation. The company successfully completed its Phase IIB human sunburn trials for Melanotan, which like sunlight, stimulates the production of melanin in the skin, in late 2003. EpiTan will lodge an IND application with the US Food and Drug Administration in mid-2004.

Mr Bridges has 28 years experience in the biotech and healthcare industry.

He will speak about Sydeny-based Peptech’s focus on the research and development of peptides and proteins.

The company currently have two objectives; to identify and develop clinically important peptide and secondly to develop and register peptide-based veterinary products for use in the management of animal health and fertility.
