Children’s charity Variety’s annual fundraiser, the Variety Bash, raised a record $1.6 million in Western Australia this year.
The trek took 120 participants from Albany to Perth via Hyden, Norseman, Kalgoorlie, Sandstone and Dalwallinu.
“In effect, 120 people have raised $1,613,942 at an average of more than $10,000 per person, which is an incredible effort,” Variety chief executive Michael Pailthorpe said. “These ‘Bashers’ are fundraising heroes who are out in the community raising awareness and funds for our cause.”
The bash began with businessman and philanthropist Dick Smith in 1985, when he organised a drive for friends in the outback in old cars to raise money for charity.
