Science and Innovation Minister John Day has announced Alan Bansemer as the successor to Charles Morgan as chair of the Technology and Industry Advisory Council.
Mr Bansemer is a former Western Australian Health Commissioner with 35 years experience in the health sector.
"An influential figure in this important area, Alan now provides strategic advice to health departments throughout Australia through his own private consultancy.
"With Alan's areas of expertise and his wide-ranging networks, I am certain he will make a positive contribution to the council and I welcome Alan and look forward to working with him to progress industry, science and innovation within the State."
The Minister said the council provided expert advice and access to networks through members' links to industry and research communities to assist the State Government in making informed policy decisions and effective policy implementation.
"The council has only recently been re-formed and has already made significant progress," Mr Day said.
In December, the state government announced with much aplomb that high-profile company director and venture capital investor Charles Morgan would chair the council, and would be joined on the board by Nobel Laureate Barry Marshall, Azure Capital chairman John Poynton and Chevron executive Colin Beckett.
But less than four months later, Mr Morgan was no longer involved.
Mr Morgan raised concerns when he resigned that the council was operating in a vacuum, and in three months he had just one meeting with Mr Day.
Mr Morgan said he was concerned about a lack of money in the state budget for science and innovation, but was also concerned about a lack of support for the new operating model he wanted for TIAC.
