Graeme Hunt, the man who has presided over BHP Billiton's massive works in the state's north west, as president of the company's important iron ore business, has been promoted to a new role as head of resource giant's Aluminium division. Mr Hunt's new London-based job will be one of seven global presidents who report directly to group chief executive Chip Goodyear. He joined the company in 1975 and has been president of the Iron Ore business since January 2004. His success in developing and managing BHP Billiton's growth pipeline is seen as being a key background for his new role. A company spokesperson told WA Business News that it was likely to benchmark internally and also look externally for a replacement for Mr Hunt, to whom Perth-based WA iron ore president and chief operating officer Ian Ashby has been reporting. Alex Vanselow, the current head of the Aluminium business will take on the role of Chief Financial Officer and will join the office of the chief executive. In other management moves, Carbon Steel Materials president Bob Kirkby has announced his retirement from the company effective from December 31 this year. He will be succeeded in this role by current chief financial officer Chris Lynch. The Carbon Steel position includes overall responsibility for the iron ore business.
